Using blogs in the classroom

Using blogs in the classroom

There are plenty of ways teachers improve their teaching methods one such way is to use integrate blogging into lesson plans. All students need to start blogging away is a blogging platform such as Tumblr, Wordpress or www.blogger.com.
It is wise to use blogging in class where students have access to laptops/ iPads or desktop computers. It would be easier for the higher grades in the Intersen Phase to take part in blogging; it might prove too complex for the younger grades.
Having a class blog is much easier than having the students create their own blog.
Teacher must come up with a task to blog about, maybe ask the Grade 5 students to write a book review on the class blog, they could all review a different book in different genres.
The teacher must then instruct students to read each other’s book reviews and comment. This promotes discussion between the learners.
The teacher can also include a list of “Top Ten” books in the sci-fi genre, learner who has read the most books could have their photo on the blog. The possibilities of using class blogs are endless.

Public and Private school debate

When i started my teaching course, one of the many things i was concerned about was whether to apply at a private or a public school upon qualifying. I'm currently employed at a private school in an admin position (soon to be the FP Zulu teacher). I have had many discussions with my colleagues, many of them having taught at public schools before.

I went to public schools during my schooling and from what i have seen, there is quite a huge difference in resources(obviously) between public and private, and many other features too many to list.
One similar feature though are the learning styles that teachers use.

There are obviously many pros and cons both for both sides but am curious to know what you all think?
how different do you think the students you teach now, would be if they attended a private/public school or vice versa?

Would you change schools if you had a choice?
Does it matter for you personally which school you teach at?

Let me know!!
